Socketed gems
All equipment now has slots for gems. The same item can turn out different depending on what you put in it, with no random affixes and no upgrades that depend on luck: the power comes from hunting and doing quests.
What each gem does
- Red gem: attack, on weapons.
- Green gem: armor, on armors, helmets, legs and boots.
- Violet gem: defense, on shields and spellbooks.
- Blue gem: weapon skill, shielding on shields and magic level on wands and rods.
- White gem: health and mana regeneration, on clothing.
Weapons have two sockets (two-handed ones have three); shields and armors, two; helmets, legs and boots, one. Looking at an item tells you how many are free and what it has, and in the client the gems show cut on the item icon.
Where they come from
Monsters drop small gems according to their family. The jeweler in each city fuses 100 small gems of one color into a large one, changes the color of small gems (two for one) and removes gems from an item for 500 gold each; the gem breaks when removed. Quests also pay gems, once per account.
An item with gems is yours: it can't go on the market and no NPC buys it.
