Otera is a PvP world. Killing players is allowed and part of the game: damage between players is halved, there are skulls, and dying costs you. These rules do not exist to avoid conflict, but to keep the conflict between people who are playing.
1. Playing means playing
- No bots, macros or programs that play for you. You may use the client and nothing else.
- No exploiting server bugs to get items, experience or money. If you find one, tell us: it is appreciated, not punished.
- One person may have several accounts, but not use them at the same time to help themselves.
2. Names
- No names that pass for staff (God, GM, Admin, Tutor and the like).
- No offensive names, and no advertising other servers.
- A name that breaks this gets locked and has to be changed.
3. How players treat each other
- Killing, stealing in PvP and betraying your guild are part of the game. Insulting, harassing and threatening outside the game are not.
- No scams involving items or real money. Trading between players is at each person's own risk, but planned deception is punished.
- No spam and no advertising other servers in the channels.
4. Your account is yours
- Do not share your password. If you lend it and something happens, items are not restored.
- Use a password you do not use anywhere else. The 8.6 protocol forces us to store them with an old, weak method, and that cannot be changed without breaking compatibility with the client.
- Do not sell or trade accounts.
5. What the staff does not do
So it is clear from the start:
- We do not give away items, experience or money, to anyone, ever. If someone offers you that in exchange for something, they are not staff.
- We will never ask for your password. Not in chat, not by email, not by any other means.
- We do not step into fights, robberies or betrayals between players. That is the game.
Penalties
Depending on how serious it is: a warning, a name lock, a temporary suspension or account deletion. Decisions are made on what can be verified in the server logs.
Otera is a small, handmade server. If something looks unfair to you, ask: it is more likely a mistake of ours than bad faith.
